More on the Alice Duer Miller connection to this film. I have to admit that I hadn't considered - male chauvinist that I am - that the film features several women in professional roles. Aunt Minnie is the owner of the eponymous shop; Stephanie is her capable assistant and designer without whom the shop will come to ruin (even when owned by a man) and Lizzie Gatz is the unattached woman entertainer, negotiating for Astaire and his band with the cafe owner.
